Key takeaway: Basant Lahore 2027 will be held on Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 March 2027. Kite flying is allowed only on these days and only within District Lahore, under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2025.
After months of changing announcements, the dates for Basant 2027 are now settled. The Punjab cabinet approved a summary fixing a three-day festival from 12 to 14 March 2027 — the same dates first announced by the Chief Minister in August 2026, after a brief plan to hold an extended celebration in late January and early February.
How the dates changed
- August 2026: The Chief Minister announced Basant Lahore 2027 for 12–14 March, following the successful revival of Basant in February 2026.
- October 2026: A longer, 10-day Basant from 29 January to 7 February was announced as part of a wider cultural celebration.
- Late October 2026: The provincial cabinet approved a revised plan, returning the festival to 12, 13 and 14 March 2027.
Because the schedule has moved more than once, it is wise to treat the official notification from the District Administration Lahore — and the official Basant portal — as the final word.
What the dates mean for you
For families and kite lovers
You can fly kites only during the notified festival days, using approved kites and cotton dor bought from a registered seller. Flying kites before or after the festival remains illegal, and reports say violators can face heavy fines and even imprisonment.
For kite businesses
Manufacturer registration for Basant 2027 began on 5 September 2026. Sellers, traders and kite flying associations are expected to register in January–February 2027. According to the official code of conduct, kite sales are permitted from 12 to 14 March 2027 (tentative). Read our registration guide to get ready.
Is Basant 2027 only in Lahore?
Yes. Just like in 2026, celebrations are limited to District Lahore. Kite flying in other districts of Punjab remains prohibited.
